Can I be unemployed between graduation and my OPT start date?

Yes. The OPT unemployment counter only starts running on your Actual OPT Start Date (the start date on your EAD), so days between graduation and that start date do not count toward your 90-day unemployment limit. You also remain in valid F-1 status during the standard 60-day grace period after your program end date. Just remember you are not authorized to work until the EAD start date arrives.

Watch out

The 90-day clock begins on your EAD start date; you cannot legally work before that date even if you have a job offer.
