Can I change employers on STEM OPT?

Yes, you can change employers during your STEM OPT extension. The new employer must be enrolled in E-Verify, and you and the new employer must complete a new Form I-983 training plan that you submit to your DSO within 10 days of starting the new opportunity. You also need to submit a final self-evaluation for the prior employer, and report the change so your DSO can update SEVIS. There is no new I-765 filing required to change employers, but the reporting steps are mandatory.

Watch out

Each new employer must be E-Verify enrolled and a new I-983 filed within 10 days; gaps between jobs count toward your 150-day unemployment limit.
